Dua Lipa talks "Dark Pop" and her "Nineties/Noughties" role models

It's already topped the chart in the U.K., and now "New Rules" has become Dua Lipa's biggest U.S. hit to date.  The song is about resisting the temptation to get back together with your ex, and its female-empowerment lyrics and sassy attitude show the influence of Dua's biggest musical inspirations: Pink, Christina Aguilera and Nelly Furtado. "It was always them that I was so fascinated by...that whole Nighties/Noughties era that was just so amazing and so colorful and sassy," Dua tells ABC Radio. "And it was just something so amazing to look up to. And I guess I just go…

Prosecutors in Washington State reportedly are dropping a case against Nelly in which he had been accused of rape. TMZ reports that the King County Prosecuting Attorney's office will not go forward with the case after the alleged victim declined to cooperate. Back in October, the accuser's lawyer posted a letter to her website saying that the woman, whom the attorney described as a 21-year-old college student, told the Auburn, Washington Police Department and the King County Prosecuting Attorney's office to "put a halt to the criminal investigation of Cornell Haynes, Jr. (aka Nelly)" and that "she will not testify…

Selena Gomez wishes Taylor Swift a happy birthday: "I wish some knew how big your heart actually is"

Not long ago, Selena Gomez noted in an interview that she and Taylor Swift have been friends for about 12 years: they met when she was dating Nick Jonas and Taylor was dating Joe Jonas.  Since then, they've both been through a lot -- and a lot of different relationships, too -- but they've always had each other's backs.  It's no wonder, then, that Selena posted a super-sweet message for Taylor on her birthday Wednesday. Writing on Instagram, Selena captioned a blurry photo of the two of them together, "I’m glad you were born. You write all the thoughts some…

Lady Gaga now insists she won't use her birth name in "A Star Is Born" credits

It's been widely reported that when Lady Gaga makes her big-screen debut next year in the reboot of A Star Is Born, she'll be billed under her birth name, Stefani Germanotta.  That's because in April, Warner Brothers, the studio producing the movie, issued a statement announcing that fact.  But apparently, Gaga didn't get the memo. Gaga tweeted last night, "I’ve seen a lot of rumors on the internet that for 'A Star Is Born' I’ll be billed as Stefani, but that’s not the case. It’s Lady Gaga, baby!" Adding to the reporting of the "Stefani" story is the fact that…

Ariana Grande, "Despacito" top Google's Year in Search 2017

Ariana Grande and "Despacito" top the music-related categories of Google's Year in Search 2017, which rounds up what was trending on the search engine throughout the year. The reason Ariana topped searches for musicians in 2017 is, unfortunately, because of the bombing that took place in May outside her concert in Manchester, U.K.  That can be seen by looking at a graph of searches for her name, which peaked from May 21 to May 27.  The bombing took place May 22.  Searches peaked again on June 4, the day of One Love Manchester, the concert Ariana organized as a benefit…
