Sam Smith Plays Down Adele Comparisons, Duet with Mary J. Blige Out Now

Most artists would be thrilled if their music was mentioned in the same breath as that of Adele's, but rising British star Sam Smith says he'd prefer to let his music stand on its own merit. Not long ago, no less a star than Katy Perry tweeted that Sam was "the male version of Adele."  Now, speaking to the Australian paper The Daily Telegraph, Sam says, "I’m a very different artist to Adele."  He adds, "I can see the similarities in the honesty of lyrics but I also understand that people need to compare things to digest music which is…

Katy Perry Says "Healthy Sexual Curiosity" Led Her to Cosmo; What's Next for Her Brand?

The most ironic thing about Katy Perry taking over the cover of Cosmopolitan's global issue for July, appearing on every single one of its international covers?  The fact that as a kid, she was banned from reading the iconic woman's magazine. "I started reading Cosmo specifically when my mother said I couldn't," reveals Katy in a behind-the-scenes video documenting her cover shoot.  Katy, whose parents are extremely religious, laughs, "I didn't really know about the outside world, especially when it came to healthy sexual curiosity.  So I was getting a lot of my tips from Cosmo!" The video shows Katy…

Lorde & Her Producer Make a Great "Team"

Most articles about Lorde marvel at the fact that she's only 17, yet seems so talented and wise beyond her years.  People find it difficult to believe she could've created the music on her hit debut album, Pure Heroine, at such a young age.  The fact is, she didn't do it alone -- there was someone there with her, helping her shape her raw talent into Grammy-winning tunes. Lorde has a close musical partnership with New Zealand songwriter and producer named Joel Little.  He co-wrote every song on her album with her, and also engineered, mixed, played on and produced…

Chris Brown Released from Jail

Chris Brown was released from jail in Los Angeles last night, less than a month after he was sentenced to 131 days for violating his probation.  The 25-year-old rapper was released at two minutes after midnight Monday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Brown was actually sentenced to a year in jail on May 9, after he admitted to an L.A. court that he’d violated his probation by getting into an altercation last October with a man outside of a Washington, D.C. hotel.  However, the judge reduced the sentenced by giving Brown credit for the 116 days he…

Taylor Swift: My Next Album Is "Already My Favorite Thing That I've Ever Created"

Taylor Swift has raised the expectations for her next album quite a bit. She recently met with reporters in Shanghai, China, during her ongoing Asian leg of her RED tour, and addressed the project. Taylor noted that with her RED tour soon coming to an end, she can focus more on the album. She added, “I’ve already been working very hard on it and it’s already my favorite thing that I’ve ever created.” Chances are strong that she’ll continue to write songs that draw from her personal experiences -- something she said she’s done since she was a pre-teen. She…

Justin Bieber Apologizes After British Tabloid Publishes Video Clip of Racist Joke

There's more trouble for Justin Bieber.  When the singer was just 15 years old, he told a racist joke to a group of friends.  Now it's come back to haunt him.  The British tabloid The Sun first published the video, which is five years old. TMZ has since posted it, too, claiming that Justin was aware that there was a camera rolling at the promotional event where it was shot.  Bieber asks, "Why are black people afraid of chainsaws?" then answers, "Run n****rn****rn****r," in a manner that imitates a chainsaw starting. In a statement obtained by ABC News, the pop…
