Lorde has already promised her fans "something different" if they come to check her out on the newly announced U.S. leg of her ongoing tour.  Now, she's ramping up the hyperbole to get them even more excited. "A word about the shows: they're going to be insane, and very beautiful," Lorde writes in a Facebook post. "If you've already seen me perform live, this will be worlds away. I'm planning a visually stunning, sonically wondrous show that's a leap above what you've seen, and there are lots of amazing venues booked, including some outdoor stages for sweaty summer nights to…

Austin Mahone to Sing National Anthem at Game 1 of the NBA Finals

Austin Mahone is a San Antonio native, so it's no wonder he's been tapped to sing at Game 1 of the NBA finals, which features the San Antonio Spurs facing off against the Miami Heat. Billboard reports that Austin will sing the national anthem at the event Thursday night; you'll be able to see it live on ABC starting at 9 p.m. ET.  Austin will return to his hometown to kick off his North American headlining tour on July 25.  Asked what fans can expect from that outing, Austin tells ABC News Radio, "More songs, more dancers, bigger stages, lights,…

Coldplay Still #1, Mariah Carey in at #3, Austin Mahone's Top 10

A #1 debut on the Billboard album chart has eluded Mariah Carey.  The numbers are now official, and the diva's long-awaited new album Me. I Am Mariah … The Elusive Chanteuse has entered at #3, with first-week sales of 58,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Mariah's last non-holiday studio album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, also debuted at #3, back in 2009, but as Billboard notes, the first-week sales on that effort were 168,000 copies.  These are the smallest first-week sales figures for a non-holiday album by Mariah since SoundScan was instituted in 1991.   On the positive side, Me. I…

Justin Bieber' Calabasas, CA Home Confirmed as Sold to Khloe Kardashian

Justin Bieber's neighbors in Calabasas, California are no doubt thrilled that he's leaving the area, having sold his house.  They may not be as thrilled about the person he sold it to: Khloe Kardashian. The Los Angeles Times reports that the reality star has purchased Justin's mansion -- where he lived during the notorious egg-throwing incident, and the notorious Ferrari-speeding incident -- for $7.2 million.  Justin bought the place two years ago for $6.5 million. The news of the purchase was first reported by TMZ back in March, but now the Times has confirmed it via public records. When she…

Second Video Showing Justin Bieber Using the "N-Word" Emerges; Justin Wants to "Own What He Did"

Justin Bieber just finished apologizing for that notorious video that shows him, as a 15-year-old, telling a racist joke that features the "N-word."  Now, another video has emerged that shows him, at age 14, using the word again, but his camp apparently is OK with this one going public. TMZ reports that Justin's team has informed them that they want the video to be made public because the singer wants to "own what he did."  In this case, what he's doing is singing his song "One Less Lonely Girl," but replacing the word "girl" with the "N-word."  According to Justin's…

Sure, Bastille Sings About "Pompeii," but Have They Been There?

Bastille's smash hit "Pompeii" is one of those rare songs where the title never actually appears in any of the lyrics.  But the tune is called "Pompeii" for a reason: it's about the people in the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, which was destroyed in 79 AD by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Today, what's left of Pompeii is a popular tourist destination, and yes, the guys in Bastille have visited it. The ruins of Pompeii, which were well-preserved by all the ash from the volcano, are located in Italy, near Naples.  "We went there last summer," Bastille drummer Chris…

Rob Thomas Addresses Rixton's Soundalike Hit: "They Are True Gentlemen"

Rob Thomas has written songs for other artists before -- "Smooth" by Santana comes to mind, for example -- but his latest songwriting credit is for a tune he really had nothing to do with. You may have noticed that "Me and My Broken Heart," by rising British band Rixton, sounds very much like Rob's solo hit "Lonely No More," and that's no accident: the band deliberately used part of Rob's song's melody.  "We've been a huge fan of his, so we took a lot of inspiration from him and wanted to give him a tip of the hat," Rixton…

Paramore "Shocked" by Success of Their Biggest-Ever Hit, "Ain't It Fun"

Paramore has been having a pretty good year: they scored a big hit with "Still Into You" and then singer Hayley Williams racked up another hit with "Stay the Night," her collaboration with Zedd.  But Hayley says the runaway success of the band's current single, "Ain't It Fun," has taken the entire band by surprise. "I don't think you should ever just assume that a single's gonna be your big hit, or be a success," Hayley told reporters during a conference call on Tuesday. "But this one, by far, has just shocked all of us."  In fact, "Ain't It Fun"…

Report: Mariah's New Album Has Disappointing First-Week Sales

As many industry sources predicted last week, Mariah Carey's latest album did not debut with big sales. Hits Daily Double reports Me. I am Mariah...The Elusive Chanteuse sold only 57 thousand copies for the week ending Sunday -- good enough for a #3 chart debut, but far below Mariah's usual sales numbers. The sales total for the album will officially be announced Wednesday. Billboard previously stated that Elusive Chanteuse was on track to become Mariah's lowest sales debut for a non-holiday studio album since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991. Her previous low mark was for 1991's Emotions, which…

Taylor Swift Donates $50K to Philadelphia Children's Hospital

Taylor Swift has donated 50 thousand dollars to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The money will be used to create programming for cancer-stricken teens receiving treatment at the hospital's cancer center -- including a "high-tech music therapy cart" that will allow them to create and produce music. Lamia Barakat, the director of the Psychosocial Services Program at CHOP’s Cancer Center, says in a statement, “Taylor Swift’s music is an inspiration to so many of our teen patients.” Barakat adds, “We can think of no better way to use her gift than to grow our Adolescent and Young Adult initiative designed…
