Why The Script Recorded Their New Album on a Smelly, Noisy "'70s Porn Bus"

After spending all summer on tour with OneRepublic, The Script have just released their new album No Silence Without Sound, featuring the single "Superheroes."  The disc was largely recorded on the road during that summer tour -- in fact, the band literally cut the album using a studio that was installed on their tour bus.  But that wasn't quite as convenient as it might sound. "Initially...we were thinking, 'Awesome.  It's a bus.  It's gonna be gorgeous.  It's gonna have all these trinkets," laughs Script guitarist Mark Sheehan. "But actually, we got there, and it looked like a seventies porn bus. …

Taylor Swift: Dissing Enemies & Exes in Song Is a "Strange, Eerie Form of Justice"

Taylor Swift's upcoming album 1989 isn't like her last one, Red: it wasn't inspired by heartbreak, and doesn't feature lots of songs dissing exes who screwed her over.  But Taylor says the fact that she gets to write those kinds of songs, and that the people who inspired them are basically forced to hear them everywhere, is strangely satisfying to her. Speaking to the Canadian magazine FASHION for its new cover story, Taylor explains, "I feel like writing a song is sort of the last piece of the puzzle of solving whatever mystery I’m trying to solve emotionally. Things that…

Katy Perry Won't "Pay to Play" the Super Bowl

Not long ago, the Wall Street Journal reported that the NFL had reached out to Coldplay, Rihanna and Katy Perry, asking them to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show this February, but there was a catch:  the NFL wanted those artists to pay for the privilege of landing the gig.  The exposure is so valuable, figures the NFL, that the artists wouldn't mind giving it a share of their future earnings in exchange.  Well,  Katy's now gone on record as saying that she's not interested in that particular deal. Appearing on ESPN's College GameDay in Oxford, Mississippi, on Saturday,…

Adam Levine Plays Freddie Mercury, Gets Hit by Truck on "Saturday Night Live"

Maroon 5 was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this past weekend, but frontman Adam Levine also popped up in a couple of sketches. Adam first appeared in a sketch that featured host Sarah Silverman as the late Joan Rivers, appearing at a comedy roast in heaven, at a table with various dead celebrities, such as Lucille Ball, Richard Pryor and Steve Jobs.  Adam played Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of Queen, who died of AIDS in 1991.   He didn't have much to do, other than sing a snatch of "Bohemian Rhapsody" and sit there while Sarah, as Joan,…
