Ariana Grande Is "Everything": Scores Second #1 Album in Less than a Year

Given that it features three top-10 hits, it's no wonder Ariana Grande's new album, My Everything, has debuted at #1 on the Billboard album chart.  But what's more impressive is the fact Ariana can now boast that she's racked up two number-one albums in less than a year. Ariana's previous album, Yours Truly, debuted at #1 a week after it was released on September 2, 2013.  She's the first woman since Britain's Got Talent winner Susan Boyle to have her first two albums debut at #1. Ariana is now one of only three women in the SoundScan era, which dates…

Taylor Swift "Shakes" Out Another Week at #1

No one has managed to shake Taylor Swift off the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 yet.  Taylor's new single "Shake It Off" remains on top for a second week, and the track also tops the Digital Songs chart for a second week, with 355,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.  Taylor posted a screen shot of someone on her team texting her the news, and her reply, which was a string of jumbled letters.  She captioned the shot, "When you're so excited, all reason and grammar goes out the window." Elsewhere on the chart, Meghan Trainor's "All About…

Jermaine Dupri Says He Wasn't Fired as Mariah Carey's Manager

Last month, Mariah Carey parted ways with her manager and longtime collaborator Jermaine Dupri. Now, the hitmaker is dispelling rumors that he was fired due to the disappointing sales of Mariah's latest album, Me. I Am Mariah…the Elusive Chanteuse. In an interview with Vlad TV, JD insists it was his decision to walk away from his management role, adding that most people assumed that Mariah let him go. "People think in their minds that that’s exactly how it has to happen," Dupri said. "It just can’t possibly be that Jermaine woke up one morning and didn’t want to do it no more."…

Unions Blast NFL's "Pay-to-Play" Super Bowl Halftime Scheme

It's looking more and more like Katy Perry, Rihanna, Coldplay or whoever else the NFL wants to perform during Super Bowl halftime next year won't have to pay for the privilege of doing so. As the Wall Street Journal first reported, the NFL had approached those three acts and offered them the chance to play halftime, with the caveat that they pay the NFL some of their future earnings.  But Deadline reports that several unions have now gone on record as condemning that plan. The AFL-CIO’s Department of Professional Employees and the American Federation of Musicians are both against the…

Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" Is "Billboard's" Official Song of the Summer 2014

In the end, it wasn't even a contest.  "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX has handily beat all competitors to be named Billboard's official Song of the Summer 2014. Each year, Billboard tracks the most popular songs, chart-wise, from Memorial Day to Labor Day, to determine what the real Song of the Summer is.  Not only did "Fancy" top the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks, it topped the publication's Song of the Summer chart for its entire 14-week run.  The last time a song dominated that chart for the entire summer was 2010, when Katy Perry's "California Gurls"…
