Taylor Swift leads MTV EMA nominations; Shawn Mendes, Ed Sheeran get multiple nods

Taylor Swift hasn't put out a new album in three years -- her next, Reputation, comes out November 10 -- but she's the leading nominee for this year MTV EMAs, or European Music Awards. On the strength of her comeback single and video "Look What You Made Me Do," Taylor has nabbed six nods, including Best Artist, Best Video, and Best U.S. Act. Taylor's friend Shawn Mendes is the next most-nominated artist with five nods, while her pals and collaborators Ed Sheeran and Kendrick Lamar have four nominations each.  This year, the Best Male and Best Female categories have been…

Maroon "Matrix"? Maroon 5 announce new album "Red Pill Blues"

Maroon 5 has finally revealed the title of their new album: it's called Red Pill Blues. The disc is available for pre-order starting this Friday, October 6.  Oddly, the actual release date has not been revealed, though Adam Levine has said it's due in November. The album's unusual title seems as though it's inspired by the movie The Matrix.  In that movie, Laurence Fishburne's Morpheus famously offers Keanu Reeves' Neo two pills, and tells him if he wants to return to his boring, everyday life, he should take the blue pill. But if he wants to be awakened to the…

Taylor Swift's helping prevent car crashes in Iowa

Look what you made the Iowa Department of Transportation do. The government agency is using a famous lyric from Taylor Swift’s new song to try to get people to stop looking at their phones while driving. In “Look What You Made Me Do,” there’s an interlude where Taylor says, “I’m sorry, the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? ‘Cause she’s dead.” The Iowa DOT slightly modified those words for a series of highway signs as part of their Zero Fatalities campaign. The signs read: “Old Taylor can’t come to the phone…she’s driving.” Along with a picture…

PRETTYMUCH make debut on MTV's TRL: "To be on the same platform as the greats is surreal"

In the early 2000's, the place to get your boy band fix was MTV's TRL.  Now that the show's back, it's only fitting that a new boy band be one of the first guests.  PRETTYMUCH, who are backed by Simon Cowell, performed on the new TRL Tuesday,  couldn't get over the fact that they were doing the same show as their musical heroes. "I'm obsessed with Backstreet Boys, so I watched the re-runs [of TRL] on YouTube," PRETTYMUCH member Edwin Honoret told ABC Radio.  "So it's just crazy, 'cause to be on the same stage and platform as the greats...it's…
