Phillip Phillips on Why He Won't Mentor "American Idol" Contestants: "I'd Feel Like They Were Just Going to Slap Me"

American Idol returns for a 14th season on Wednesday night with judges Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr., and new mentor Scott Borchetta, the guy who made Taylor Swift a star.  Last year, Idol alumni also appeared on the show to work with the contestants, but season 11 winner Phillip Phillips says don't look for him to return in a mentor role: he can't, and won't, do it. "No! I don’t have good things to say about even myself, even my work," Phillip told ABC News Radio when asked if he'd like to do what Adam Lambert, Chris…

New Report Says Meghan Trainor Is Not Dating Nick Jonas' Assistant

Earlier this week, E! News claimed that Meghan Trainor is seeing Nick Jonas' assistant, Cory Andersen. However, a new report claims that's not the case. An Us Weekly source says the talk that Meghan is involved with Cory is a "joke," insisting, "They are not seriously dating." The source adds that Meghan and Cory have met and "been cool with each other but that's all it is right now." E! News had cited a source who said that while the two may not necessarily be dating, "they are definitely seeing each other." The rumor was partly fueled by Cory posting…

Dr. Dre Accused of "Corporate Betrayal" in Beats Lawsuit

Dr. Dre has been sued by audio cable company Monster, which claims it invented the technology behind the wildly-popular Beats by Dr. Dre headphones and is the victim of "corporate betrayal." The lawsuit, filed in California on Tuesday by Monster and its CEO, Noel Lee, alleges that Dre, his Beats Electronics co-founder Jimmy Iovine, and their firm concealed Monster and Lee's roles in designing and engineering the headphones, and improperly took control of Beats by Dr. Dre products before selling the brand to Apple for 3.2 billion dollars last year. The complaint alleges that Dre's primary contribution to the brand…

Jason Mraz Embraces Life on an Avocado Farm

If you asked Jason Mraz what “the remedy” is now, he’d probably say avocados. The singer-songwriter sat down with EatingWell magazine for the mag's January/February issue to discuss his transformation from cigarette-smoking, junk food-eating musician to bona fide avocado farmer and health nut. You know those avocados on your Chipotle burrito? They might've come from Jason’s San Diego ranch. No joke, he supplies avocados to a local Chipotle. Jason moved to the ranch in 2004 for the isolation, but he has quickly embraced the farmer's lifestyle -- complete with a mostly vegan diet. He admits he still enjoys the occasional…

Sam Smith Criticizes "Awful" Pop Stars, Names Some Favorites

In the latest issue of V Magazine, Sam Smith chats with legendary R&B singer Chaka Khan to discuss their musical influences, potential collaborations, and even some “awful” pop stars. The “Stay With Me” singer didn’t hold back when talking about meeting some of his ungrateful peers. “I won’t name names, but some of these pop stars are just awful,” he told Chaka. “And they have not even had half the success that you’ve had and yet you’re so humble and kind.” “Well, it’s people skills,” Chaka replied. “Talking to a screen all day long takes the human experience out. Luckily…

Sia to Make "Saturday Night Live" Debut Later This Month

Sia is set to make her Saturday Night Live debut. The singer-songwriter will make her first appearance as musical guest on January 17 -- although “appearance” may be the wrong word. The Grammy-nominated “Chandelier” singer doesn’t show her face in public and always performs with her back to the audience. It’s her bid to keep mega-fame at bay, but it makes for some tricky live shows. In past televised performances, Sia’s had dancers take center stage, while she belts her tunes facing away from the camera. She once even had Lena Dunham perform an interpretive dance during her Late Night…

Is Mariah Carey Close to a Deal for a Las Vegas Residency?

Mariah Carey may be inching closer to having her own show in Las Vegas. The New York Post's Page Six reports Mariah "is about to sign a deal" for a residency at Caesars Palace that could launch late this year. Page Six states the agreement could surpass the reported two-year, 30-million-dollar deal that Britney Spears originally signed for her residency at Planet Hollywood in Vegas. The Las Vegas Sun reported last week that Caesars was considering Mariah after it was determined that a Jennifer Lopez residency wasn't viable for the venue. Sam Smith on Why His Current Hit Is Different from Every Other Song on His Album

Sam Smith's Grammy-nominated album In the Lonely Hour is a collection of sad songs of heartbreak, inspired by the singer's unrequited love for someone who didn't love him back.  But even though it sounds like it fits into the same theme, he says his current single is the one tune on the album that wasn't inspired by his disastrous love life. Speaking about his current hit, "I'm Not the Only One," Sam tells ABC News Radio. "[It's] the only song on my album that's not about me, actually. It's about a married couple that I knew and I wrote the…
