Train to Rock Tortuga Music Festival on Saturday

Train is currently working on a new album, but that doesn't mean they can't leave the studio every once in a while to play some live music.  The band is one of the headliners for the two-day Tortuga Music Festival, taking place this Saturday and Sunday on the beach in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Train, who will perform Saturday, is one of the very few pop acts on the bill: it's a mostly country music lineup, with acts like Eric Church, Billy Currington and Brett Eldredge.  The festival is essentially a charity event designed to benefit the Rock the Ocean Foundation,…

Each year, Parade magazine publishes its popular survey, What People Earn, which takes a look at how much folks from all walks of life bring in each year.  If there's one thing that this year's survey proves, it's that if you want to earn the really big bucks, "pop superstar" is the career path you should choose. Along with regular people, Parade has estimated the annual salaries of a variety of celebrities for this year's survey, and the musicians are bringing in WAY more than some other well-known names.  For example, according to Parade, Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey brought in…

Macklemore Surprises Kids Recording Anti-Bullying PSA at Seattle Ballpark

Macklemore surprised middle school students at Seattle's Safeco Field on Thursday, as they recorded an anti-bullying PSA that will air in Washington state. According to MLB.com, Macklemore and Seattle Mariners superstar Felix Hernandez hid while the kids from Highland Middle School in nearby Bellevue worked on a PSA for the "Change the Game" campaign with the baseball team's mascot, Mariner Moose. After the moose messed up two takes, Felix and Macklemore popped out of a dugout. Macklemore, a Seattle native, is also collaborating with the Mariners on a contest. Students can take an anti-bullying pledge through the team's website, for…

Lorde "Honored and Happy" to Have Sung with Nirvana at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony

One of the big surprises at this year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, held Thursday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, was the appearance of Lorde, who came out to perform the song "All Apologies" with the surviving members of Nirvana, who were among those being inducted.  As she revealed on Twitter, Lorde couldn't have been more thrilled to have been included. The 17-year-old star, who wasn't even born when Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain took his own life 20 years ago, was one of several female singers who performed with the band: the others were '80s…

Sir Mix-A-Lot to Rap with the Seattle Symphony

In what's either an inspired merging of musical styles or yet another sign of the impending apocalypse, Sir Mix-A-Lot will be rapping with the Seattle Symphony. The Seattle-based rapper, born Anthony Ray, will join the symphony for a June 6 concert, reports MyNorthwest.com.  But alas, we won't get to hear an orchestral version of "Baby Got Back."  Instead, Mix will be rapping his lesser 1988 hit, "Posse on Broadway" -- appropriate, since it's set in Seattle and namechecks city streets and landmarks. The collaboration was proposed by London-based composer, producer and DJ Gabriel Prokofiev, who's previously given orchestral treatments to…

The movie, set three years after the original, finds Blu and Jewel, the Spix's Macaws, married with three kids. They believe they're the last five members of their breed on the planet, but when they get word that there…
