News » Thompson leading poll on U.S. Senate race
June 21, 2012 A poll shows a quarter of likely voters are still undecided in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate.
The Marquette University law school poll has former Governor Tommy Thompson leading the GOP field, at 34 percent. Former Congressman Mark Neumann is second with 16 percent, with businessman Eric Hovde at 14 percent and Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald at 10 percent.
Marquette political science professor Charles Franklin says he's surprised by the high number of undecided voters. He says the August 14 race is still up for grabs, if the other candidates make a good impression as they become more recognizable.
The poll also showed that Thompson has an eight-point lead in November general election over Democratic Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin, 49 to 41 percent. |
