News » Doctors oppose Medicare payment cut
Feb. 10, 2010 A doctors organization says a cut in Medicare payments could lead to a doctor shortage for patients.
On March 1, the federal government is set to cut Medicare physician payments by 21 percent.
Dr. James Rohack is the president of the American Medical Association. He says if nothing is done, many doctors may stop accepting Medicare patients. He says federal lawmakers need to reverse the cuts.
Rohack says about a quarter of the state's 850,000 Medicare patients are already having trouble finding a doctor. He says the funding cut will make the problem worse. |
