News » Man sentenced for killing 5 in OWI crash
Feb. 10, 2010 Authorities say he was driving drunk when he killed five family members in an accident early last year, and a 40-year-old Marinette man is going to prison for 25 years.
A judge handed down that sentence to Richard Powell yesterday.
Powell pleaded guilty to five counts of homicide by driving drunk last December. Authorities say he was going more than 30 miles an hour over the speed limit in January of 2009, when he collided with a car on Hwy. 41 in the town of Peshtigo.
44-year-old Joel Rivas and his four children died. 16-year-old Elina and 15-year-old Karen went to Kaukauna high school, while 12-year-old Nicandro was a student at Wrightstown middle school. 19-year-old Nancy lived in Green Bay. |
