News » City targets West high school drivers again

Feb. 10, 2010
A city committee is reinforcing its stance that Appleton West students should park in a school-owned lot, and not along neighborhood streets.

The city council put two-hour zones in place in the area around the school, but not along a stretch of Mason Street. Last night, the city's municipal services committee expanded the zones to cover that street, between Winnebago and Packard.

City public works director Paula Vande Hey says the restrictions would be in place on a 90-day trial basis.

The district built a parking lot for students on Linwood Avenue, but during the last winter, they decided to park on the street so they didn't have to walk as far to school.

Vande Hey says the spots along Mason Street must be a little closer to the school. She says having all those cars parked along a busy city street was causing some problems.
