News » Hilbert voters to decide another referendum
Feb. 16, 2010 Leaders of the Hilbert school district are hoping for a different result at the ballot box today.
They put another building referendum on the ballot for projects at the elementary, middle and high schools. Tony Sweere is the district administrator, and he says they're asking for $4.7 million for several projects. He says they include a science wing for middle and high school students.
Sweere says the heating and cooling system at the schools need to be replaced. He says the project at the elementary school should pay for itself in about five years through energy savings.
Sweere says timing is important with this referendum. He says if it passes, it would put the district in a good position to apply for federal stimulus money. He says any grants would offset the costs of the various projects.
Without any stimulus funding, the owner of a $100,000 home would pay an extra $57 in property taxes. |
