News » Anti-smoking group backs insurance proposal
Mar. 30, 2010 An anti-smoking group supports a proposal that would force insurance companies to cover the costs of kicking the habit.
Dona Wininsky of the American Lung Association says a lot of people need help when they decide to stop smoking, and the state isn't doing as much as it used to because of budget cuts. She says a Madison lawmaker's proposal would increase access to drugs, counseling, and other tools that help people quit.
Wininsky says it's important to pass the insurance requirement now, because she thinks a lot of people will try to stop smoking when the statewide smoking ban takes effect in July. |
