News » Lawmaker trying to block high speed rail
Mar. 31, 2010 Federal stimulus money is coming to the state for a high speed rail line between Milwaukee and Madison, but a state lawmaker is trying to stop the project.
Rep. Brett Davis says the state would have to pay the operating costs of more than $7 million a year, and that would put too much strain on the state's transportation fund. The Oregon Republican is proposing a bill that would force the legislature, and governor, to sign off on any expense that uses taxpayer money.
Davis says the $810 million project is too expensive. He says even though it's federal money, it's still taxpayer money.
Governor Doyle says the bill isn't going anywhere. He says the project is a done deal, and Davis is just playing political games. |
