News » Statewide smoking ban now in effect
July 5, 2010 Wisconsin is now smoke free.
The statewide smoking ban officially took effect at midnight, and that means people can't light up in bars or other workplaces anymore.
Maureen Busalacchi of Smoke Free Wisconsin doesn't think there will be too many violators.
Busalacchi says there's still a little work to be done in order to make Wisconsin truly smoke free. She says most tribal casinos still let patrons light up. She says the Oneida Nation recently went smoke free at two of its smaller venues.
While some bar owners are investing in new smoking areas, Busalacchi cautions against spending a lot of money on those projects because a solid majority of people in the state don't smoke.
She's also urging non-smokers to get out and patronize the state's newly smoke free establishments. |
