News » Campers rescued from flooded sites

July 15, 2010
Firefighters used a rescue boat to evacuate a flooded campground near Wrightstown this morning.

Brown County emergency management director Cullen Peltier says the Apple Creek Campground was under about four feet of water in some parts, and they had to help people who were stranded in their mobile homes.

Peltier says Apple Creek runs through the campground, and water levels started rising after 4 a.m. He says some people started leaving the campground in their mobile homes not long after that, and others were camping in tents. He says the water was still slowly rising late this morning.

Peltier says they set up a temporary shelter at the Wrightstown fire department, where the campers could get something to eat if they wanted. He says no one was hurt.
