News » Neenah death likely suicide
July 15, 2010 Authorities believe a 45-year-old woman who was found dead in the hallway of a Neenah apartment building in April, killed herself after setting her home on fire in the town of Clayton.
Neenah Police Chief Kevin Wilkinson says Elizabeth Hendricks was shot in the chest and covered with a blanket. He says the evidence in the case points to a suicide, but the case is officially classified as suspicious.
Wilkinson says the case is complicated because the gun used in the shooting was stolen. He says they have a suspect in the gun theft, but he is uncooperative and the weapon hasn't been recovered.
An acquaintance of Hendricks lives in the apartment building where she was found, but Wilkinson says he wasn't home when the shooting happened.
Hendricks was found in the hallway of the apartment building on Hunt Avenue hours after a fire severely damaged her home on Highway II.
Winnebago County Sheriffs Department Capt. Steve Verwiel says the blaze started in two areas of the basement and Hendricks is a person of interest. He says Hendricks' husband and daughter were sleeping when the fire started, but were able to safely escape.
Wilkinson and Verwiel couldn't give a reason for the suicide or fire. |
