News » Heavy rain leads to flooding
July 15, 2010 The heavy rains that came with last night storms caused some streets to flood in Appleton and around the Fox Cities.
Christina Muller is Outagamie County's emergency management director and she says storm sewers aren't built to handle that kind of water flow.
Muller says they received reports of standing water on streets throughout the area. She says so far, she hasn't heard many cases of basements flooding.
In Appleton, public works director Paula Vande Hey says the reports were scattered around the city. She says some spots have larger stormwater pipes and better drainage.
On the city's northside, parts of Richmond Street and Northland Avenue had water covering the road. The intersection of Northland and Meade Street had about eight inches of standing water. A number of side streets were also flooded. |
