News » Volunteers begin homeless count in Appleton
July 22, 2010 Volunteers next week begin the task of determining how many homeless people live in the city of Appleton.
It's part of an effort called Homeless Point-In-Time Count.
Fox Valley Emergency Shelter spokesman Chris Lashock says volunteers comb the neighborhoods to get a complete count: He says their secondary goal is to connect the homeless to services they need to stabilize their life.
Mayor Tim Hanna applauds the work of Lashock and the entire volunteer team:
Based on the population numbers, the city can apply for a federal grant to meet the needs of the homeless. |
