News » 3 vying for 2 seats on Appleton school board
Mar. 30, 2012 Three candidates are on Tuesday's ballot for the Appleton school board, and two of them will win seats.
Incumbents John Mielke and Kay Eggert face a challenge from John DeVantier.
Mielke says he wants to focus on early education, getting children ready for kindergarten. He says he also hopes to bring more attention to the various educational institutions in the area, from child care facilities to post-secondary schools.
Eggert says it's important for the district to be in a position to recruit and retain the best teachers, because that's the biggest factor in student success. She says the board needs to make sure the staff has opportunities to grow professionally.
DeVantier says his top priorities are "fiscal stewardship," accountability, and achievement. |
