News » GAB staff: 900k signatures in Walker recall
Mar. 30, 2012 The review of the recall petitions against Governor Walker is over, and workers for the Government Accountability Board verified just over 900,000 of the signatures.
The GAB will meet today to decide whether to order an election.
United Wisconsin coordinated the recall effort, and executive director Lynn Freeman says it's been a long time coming.
The recall group needed 540,000 signatures to force an election.
GAB staffers threw out 30,000 signatures during the review. Workers identified 4,000 duplicates, and five fake names. Freeman says the claims of fraud by recall opponents were just a tactic to distract.
The staffers also determined there are enough valid signatures to force a recall against Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch.
The election dates would be May 8 and June 5. |
