News » Hunting group reacts to new CWD case
Apr. 3, 2012 A new case of chronic wasting disease in northwest Wisconsin is raising concerns for a national hunting group.
Whitetails Unlimited president Jeff Schinkton says until now, the disease was mostly confined to the south-central part of the state. Now the DNR says a wild doe in Washburn County had the disease, and that's about 200 miles away from the closest known wild infection.
Schinkton says the discovery is bound to impact hunters in northwest Wisconsin.
The DNR believes the fatal brain disease spreads through close contact between deer, like feeding together at a bait pile. |
