News » Bill would ban political robocalls
Apr. 4, 2012 Political robocalls would be included on the state's do-not-call list, if a lawmaker from Bellevue gets his way.
Republican Rep. Andre Jacque says many people saw how bad the robocall problem is, leading up to this week's presidential primary.
He says people on the no call list are already protected from business robocalls, and there shouldn't be a double-standard for politicians.
Jacque says some people were getting more than 40 calls over a couple of days. He says he's not concerned about violating political free speech rules, because similar laws have survived court challenges in other states.
Jacque's bill would also eliminate the two-year expiration for numbers on the list. He says when someone signs up, there number should be permanently protected. |
