News » Services strained as unemployment ends
Apr. 6, 2012 Jobless benefits for over 7,700 unemployed Wisconsinites are coming to end this week, because the state no longer qualifies for 13 weeks of extended federal benefits.
That's good news for the state because it means unemployment is dropping. But Nancy Micke of United Way Fox Cities says they are getting many calls at their 211 center from unemployed people who are losing their only source of income.
Micke says 45 percent of the calls coming in to their 211 call center are from people seeking very basic needs.
Calls for those seeking housing and shelter are up 28 percent and calls from people seeking income and employment are up 35 percent. |
