News » Spring fire danger highest in a decade
Apr. 9, 2012 The early spring is causing an exceptionally early, and severe fire danger season in Wisconsin.
DNR forestry supervisor John Lubbers says the danger is always relatively high in the spring because dead plants from last year haven't decomposed yet, but this year is different.
He says the season usually doesn't start until late April, and it usually slowly transitions from the south, to the north as the snow melts. This year it's hitting the whole state at the same time.
Lubbers says we may have to wait for the new growing season to start, to lower the threat.
Most of the state is under either very high, or extreme fire danger right now. |
