News » New laws target domestic abusers
Apr. 9, 2012 A series of bills that Governor Walker signed today target domestic abusers.
Beth Schnorr of Harbor House in Appleton says if someone violates a 72-hour no contact order, they could face up to nine months in prison, and a $10,000 fine.
She says another gives judges the authority to put someone on GPS monitoring, if they knowingly violate a restraining order. She says that's important, because stalking behavior is very dangerous, and it can be a warning sign.
The governor is signing a separate bill today that increases the penalties for repeat domestic abusers. Heather Severson of Appleton pushed for the law, after her friend, Tracy Judd, and Judd's daughter, Deja, were killed in the Madison area in 2009. Judd's boyfriend, Tyrone Adair, also murdered an ex-girlfriend their child. |
