News » Zareczny to stand trial in cold case
Apr. 10, 2012 The suspect in an Appleton cold case is going to trial.
55-year-old Roman Zareczny was in Outagamie County court yesterday for a preliminary hearing. A court commissioner ruled there is enough evidence to bind him over for trial. He's accused of sexually assaulting a girl, in November of 1989, outside of Lincoln elementary school.
Zareczny's attorney, Brandt Swardenski, says his client has an alibi. He says he was bowling from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. the night of the attack.
Prosecutors say the attack happened earlier than that.
Zareczny faces charges of first-degree sexual assault of a child, and child enticement.
He was also charged for the sexual assault of a girl at Reid golf course in April of 1989, but the statute of limitations ran out, and the case was dismissed. |
