News » UW Colleges learn of info breach
Apr. 12, 2012 The personal information of some former students at the two-year UW Colleges was accidentally posted online for a few weeks.
Administrators are sending letters to about 8,900 people, to notify them.
Spokesman Howard Cosgrove says the information included addresses, and student ID numbers, but not social security numbers or other financial data. He says compared to other breaches, it's "pretty low level."
Cosgrove says they decided to be proactive, in case anyone wants to check their credit scores.
He says administrators put together a database of former students who didn't graduate, and that's what ended up on the UW Colleges website. The students left the school between 2006 and last year.
Cosgrove says they were planning to reach out to them, and encourage them to come back. |
