News » Gov. Walker: Property taxes dip slightly
Apr. 16, 2012 Governor Walker says property taxes on an average home dropped 0.4 percent last year, thanks to the state's collective bargaining law.
The governor's office issued a statement this morning, but didn't include numbers to back it up.
Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance researcher Dale Knapp says Governor Walker's claim is close to the results his group came up with earlier this year. He says their study focused on the overall tax levy, instead of a median-valued home, and they found taxes rose by 0.3 percent.
Knapp says property tax bills varied, depending on where people live, because of school taxes.
The Legislative Fiscal Bureau predicted last year that taxes would rise by nearly 1 percent. |
