News » Man gets 40 years for Van Handel murder
Apr. 16, 2012 The man convicted of killing an Appleton man near the University of Minnesota campus last year is going to prison for 40 years.
A judge sentenced 30-year-old Timothy Bakdash this morning, for the death of 23-year-old Benjamin Van Handel.
Van Handel was walking along a sidewalk with two others, when Bakdash ran them down with a car. The others weren't seriously hurt.
Van Handel's mother, Ann, says her son will miss out on a lot. She says he didn't get a chance to meet his wife, have kids, or have the job he dreamed about.
Van Handel was set to graduate from the university, and he received his degree, posthumously.
His sister Rachel says when she graduates from UW-Madison this spring, she'll be walking for her brother.
A jury found Bakdash guilty of second-degree murder, after a trial last month. |
