News » Consumer protection warns of invoice scam
Apr. 17, 2012
The state's consumer protection department is fielding complaints from businesses and local governments about a scam that involves fake invoices.
Administrator Sandy Chalmers says a California company is sending what appears to be a $425 bill for a "telecom maintenance agreement. She says it looks like an invoice, but it's actually an illegal sales pitch.
Businesses in Green Bay have already filed reports with the state, along with the cities of Racine and Eau Claire. Chalmers says they sent the company an official warning. |
