News » State lost 4,300 private sector jobs in March

Apr. 19, 2012
After two straight months of job growth, the numbers from March went in the other direction.

Preliminary numbers from the state department of workforce development show the state lost 4,300 private sector jobs last month.

The unemployment rate went down 0.1 percent, to 6.8 percent.

In the first two months of the year, companies added nearly 20,000 jobs, and last month's loss brings the 2012 total to 15,600.

There was a decline of 200 public sector positions in March, bringing the overall public and private figures to 10,800 new jobs this year.

In Governor Walker's first 15 months in office, companies have added 5,900 private sector jobs. Including the public sector, the state lost 9,800 jobs since the beginning of last year.
