News » Neenah high school dropping German classes
Apr. 19, 2012 Neenah high school won't offer advanced German courses in the fall, and some students say the school is breaking a promise.
They say when they were freshmen, they were assured that even though the district was phasing out German, they would still be able to take four full years of the language.
Assistant Superintendent Mark Duerwaechter says it was a tough decision. He says they're looking for other options, including possibly partnering with neighboring districts, online courses, or a program that lets qualified high school students take a class at a university or technical college.
Some students and their parents say that's not what they were promised three years ago, when they committed to taking German.
Duerwaechter says because of the tight budget, they simply can't justify holding German classes for 10 students. |
