News » Neighbors win rezoning battle
Apr. 19, 2012 Appleton's city council is turning down a request to rezone a parcel of land on the southeast side.
Prospera Credit Union owns the property at East Plank Road and Huckleberry Lane, and wanted a change from single family housing to multi-family.
After hearing from neighboring homeowners for nearly 90 minutes, the issue didn't get the necessary three-quarters majority vote. Neighbors collected enough signatures to force the super majority, and last night's vote was 9-7, in favor.
Ald. Ed Baranowski represents that area, and he says it's best suited for single family homes.
Ald. Peter Stueck says the city would have had control over any multi-family development, and a future project would have added to the city's tax base. |
