News » Planned Parenthood suspending pill abortions
Apr. 20, 2012 Planned Parenthood is suspending medication-induced abortions, because of a new state law.
Planned Parenthood spokeswoman Tanya Atkinson says the law is vague and problematic, and they won't be offering so-called pill abortions until further notice.
The new law requires women who chose medication-induced abortions to meet with the same doctor three times, and the doctor has to verify that they're not being coerced.
Doctors could be charged with a felony, if they don't follow the rules.
About 25 percent of women who have abortions chose the pill method. It can only be used during the first 9 weeks of pregnancy.
Planned Parenthood will still offer surgical abortions at its clinics in Grand Chute, Milwaukee, and Madison. |
