News » Recall candidate wants to raise sales tax
Apr. 23, 2012 The sales tax could climb by one percent, if one of the candidates running to replace Governor Walker in a recall election gets his way.
Democratic Secretary of State Doug La Follette says they could generate $1.5 billion every two years to fund the state's schools, if people were required to pay one more cent on every dollar they spend.
La Follette says it would also be a more equitable way to pay for education.
He faces Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, and Senator Kathleen Vinehout of Alma, in the May 8 primary election. |
