The Winnebago County victim witness coordinator says many crime victims don't know their rights.
Terri Van Dellen says it's her job to inform them. She says victims have the right to receive notification of court proceedings, and the opportunity to talk with the prosecutor. She says they can also make a statement to the court and receive compensation.
Van Dellen says they help hundreds of victims each year go through the criminal justice process.
It's Crime Victims' Rights Week, and Winnebago County officials held a ceremony yesterday to honor victims. |
