News » Appleton police officer wins national award
Apr. 26, 2012 An organization is singling out an Appleton police officer, with a national award.
Capt. Dave Nickels received the Ace Award this morning, from the Institute for the Prevention of In-Custody Deaths, for his work with a man who was in a state of what's called "excited delirium."
Nickels called for an ambulance, after police were called to a house on Jefferson Street, in 2009. He says officers throughout the Fox Cities went through training by Appleton police, so they know how to identify the problem.
Nickels says "excited delirium" can be caused by a variety of things, including drug use, epileptic seizures, and other health issues.
Nickels received the group's first annual award during a ceremony this morning. |
