News » Waupaca Co. deputy wins discrimination claim
Apr. 26, 2012 A Waupaca County sheriff's deputy won a discrimination case, and she's being promoted as part of a settlement.
Julie Thobaben filed a federal complaint, after the department promoted a male patrol officer to Detective Sergeant. She charged that she had better qualifications, and the U.S. department of justice accused the county of not promoting her, because she's a woman.
County officials say they couldn't promote Thobaben because she would've been supervising her husband.
Under the settlement, the county owes Thobaben back pay, damages, and attorney fees. |
