News » Appleton looking at pay station pilot program
Apr. 30, 2012 When the city of Appleton resurfaces the Soldiers Square parking lot in the downtown this summer, officials plan to experiment with a different parking system.
Instead of replacing all 32 meters, deputy public works director Ross Buetow says they want to put in two pay stations. He says they should save money in the long run because workers won't have to collect coins from 32 different meters, or maintain those meters.
Buetow says people would have to enter their stall number at one of the pay stations, and put in their money.
He says if people respond well to the system, the city would install the stations in other spots.
Crews will finish resurfacing the lot by the end of July. The two stations would cost the city about $25,000. |
