News » Dredging starts again on Fox River
May 1, 2012 PCB dredging equipment will be running 24 hours a day for the next several months, on the Fox River, near De Pere.
A federal judge ordered the NCR Corporation to start work this week.
DNR water program leader Beth Olson says NCR has to remove about 660,000 cubic yards of contaminated sediment this year. She says that's about what has been removed in recent years.
A trial that's scheduled to start in December will decide whether more paper companies are liable for some of the cleanup costs.
So far, Appleton Papers and NCR have paid about $300 million for the project. Appleton Papers spent about $200 million of that total. and the company was removed as a defendant in the case last month. |
