News » Coffee shop attracts GOP and Dem candidates
May 3, 2012 The political divide in the state didn't keep Republican and Democratic candidates out of a downtown Appleton coffee shop.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett made a campaign stop at the Copper Rock Coffee Company, just days before the Democratic primary in the recall race for governor. At the same time, supporters of Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tommy Thompson were in a separate room, for a meet-and-greet.
Barrett says he's focused on spreading his message, before next Tuesday's vote.
Barrett faces former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, Secretary of State Doug La Follette, and Senator Kathleen Vinehout in the Democratic primary.
Thompson got to the coffee shop about 10 minutes after Barrett left. He says he would repeal the federal health care reforms, and he'll introduce his own proposal next week.
Hedge fund manager Eric Hovde, former Congressman Mark Neumann, and Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald will meet Thompson in the August primary. |
