News » Outagamie Co. tourism outpaces state avg.
May 7, 2012 The growth in tourism spending in Outagamie County outpaced the state average.
Visitors spent more than $280 million last year, and that's up nearly nine percent from 2010. Statewide, spending climbed 7.6 percent to almost $10 billion. The tourism industry supported more than 6,200 jobs.
Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson says tourism remains an integral part of economic development and job creation. He says it also helps grow the tax base.
Outagamie County ranked seventh overall in visitor spending, and Nelson says that's higher than Door County, but behind Wisconsin Dells.
Brown County had a nearly 12 percent increase in visitor spending, to $537 million. That supports 11,000 tourism-related jobs. Winnebago County's numbers were up 6.4 percent, to about $202 million, while Calumet County was up 2.6 percent, to almost $24 million. |
