News » Cherry shortage impacting local business
May 8, 2012 Door County cherries will be hard to come by this year, and that's having a big impact on a town of Vandenbroek business.
Brian Joosten of Cherryland's Best says he usually buys about 750,000 pounds of Door County cherries every year, but this year the entire county might now produce that much.
He says the warm weather in March caused the trees to blossom, and freezing temperatures in April killed much of the crop.
Joosten says he's scrambling to find another supplier.
Joosten says prices are already up 40 percent, and they could rise higher.
He says the cherry shortage will definitely have an impact on his business, but he's not sure how big of a hit it will take. |
