News » Clerks predict 25-30% turnout
May 8, 2012 Voters will head to the polls today for the primary in the recall race for governor.
Because the election is unprecedented in the state's history, local clerks say it's tough to predict the turnout.
Appleton city clerk Char Peterson says 25 to 30 percent might cast a ballot.
Four Democrats are running for the party's nomination for governor. The winner would take on Governor Walker next month. Walker faces token opposition in today's primary.
Winnebago County clerk Sue Ertmer says the polls will be much busier during the June 5 general election. She says they believe the turnout will be similar to a regular gubernatorial race.
Statewide, the Government Accountability Board is predicting a 30 to 35 percent turnout.
There are also primaries for lieutenant governor and four Senate seats, but none of the Senate races are in northeast Wisconsin. |
