News » Local recall primary turnout around 40%
May 9, 2012 Voter turnout will likely top 50 percent in next month's recall election.
That's the feeling of a couple of local clerks, after more voters than expected cast their ballots yesterday.
In Appleton and Brown County, 42 percent of registered voters went to the polls. In Outagamie County, voter turnout was 38 percent. Both are higher than the anticipated statewide voting rate of 30 to 35 percent.
Appleton City Clerk Char Peterson says she's already getting requests for absentee ballots for the June 5 recall election. She says they aren't available yet.
She says it's hard to predict how many people will turnout for the recall election because those kinds of elections are very rare, and there is so much passion on both sides. |
