News » Gov. downplays human waste spreading case
May 10, 2012 Governor Walker says the controversy over political appointees at the DNR intervening on behalf of a waste hauler is much ado about nothing.
Herr Environmental was fined for spreading human waste on farm fields, at rates that were three times the legal limit. Walker says the DNR acted appropriately by issuing fines, instead of forwarding the case to the state department of justice.
Political appointees within the DNR reportedly intervened on behalf of the company. Democratic Rep. Brett Hulsey of Madison says that was wrong, and it put families with nearby wells at risk.
Hulsey and several of his Democratic colleagues are requesting a hearing by the legislature's environmental committees. |
