News » Group gives state C+ for new parent policies
May 10, 2012 A report shows Wisconsin could do much better when it comes to supporting new parents in the workforce.
Vicky Shabo of the National Partnership for Women and Families says the state got a C-plus. She says that ranks near the middle of the pack.
Shabo says the state could improve its rating by providing paid family leave and other support programs.
She says ultimately they want lawmakers to implement the programs on at the national level, so there wouldn't be a state-by-state patchwork of safeguards.
Women make up 48 percent of the workforce in Wisconsin, and 76 percent of children in the state live in a home where both parents work. |
