News » Appleton looks at stormwater options
May 10, 2012 Appleton officials are already planning one project to alleviate flooding in the area around Appleton East high school, and they're looking at a series of other possibilities.
City staff engineer Sue Olson says they evaluated 11 different options, after the bids were too high for a large underground storage tank beneath a soccer field at the high school.
She says they're recommending three projects, including a smaller tank at that site. Olson says they're also considering a "dry pond" at Lions Park, and it would only fill up if there's a major storm.
For the third project, the city would install large underground pipes to carry stormwater from the area to the retention pond on Kensington Drive.
The three projects could cost $16.5 million.
Olson says construction is scheduled to start next year on the other project -- an underground storage tank beneath a parking lot at East high school.
The city's utilities committee is going over the proposals. |
